Biosecurity teams are ramping up controls in Auckland - after catching a single male Queensland fruit fly in a Mount Roskill surveillance trap on Tuesday

Movement of fruit and vegetables in the suburb are restricted.

Biosecurity NZ Commissioner North Mike Inglis says teams are out setting up about 400 extra traps in the area.

He says they'll also collect fruit from properties and check them in a lab.

He's asking community to assist by alerting official they notice anything.
