Three teens are in custody after a burglary in Auckland that triggered a 90-minute police chase, involving the Eagle helicopter

Officers were called to a store smash-in on Howick's Moore Street about 5.30am.

It's alleged the group threatened a witness with a weapon before fleeing in a stolen Toyota Aqua.

Police caught up with the vehicle in East Tamaki, but it sped off - driving dangerously on the wrong side of the motorway in Waitemata and Counties Manukau.

It was eventually stopped using spikes on Redoubt Road.

Charges are being considered.
