Canterbury have scored in extra time to beat North Harbour 31-25 in Christchurch and lock the Ranfurly Shield away for the summer

The red and blacks were trailing 25-24 in the final moments, but took advantage of penalties and numerous phases to score close to the posts.

The result also ends Harbours hopes of a spot in the Mitre 10 Cup premiership semis, instead seeing Auckland secure the final place.

Earlier Northland trounced Otago 40-10 in Whangarei.
