The bill to compensate Mid Canterbury farmers found with Mycoplasma bovis in their herds might be around 17-million dollars

The bill to compensate Mid Canterbury farmers found with Mycoplasma bovis in their herds might be around 17-million dollars

Federated Farmers has offered support to the owners of two or possibly three dairy farms identified by MPI as being infected.

Mid Canterbury dairy chairman Chris Ford says the owners will be doing it hard, as the animals are in some cases like pets.

He says he's spoken to one of them and offered all of them support.

He says the compensation programme is much better than when it started in 2017.
