Westport police have stepped up patrols after flooding on the West Coast

Police are reassuring locals they're preventing criminal activity, while at the same time assisting with the emergency response and recovery.

Sergeant Georgie Were says they're working around the clock and extra staff are patrolling vacant homes.

He says there've been a few incidents, and anyone seeing something suspicious should contact police straight away.
