Rainfall on the West Coast hasn't been as extreme as originally forecast

Rainfall on the West Coast hasn't been as extreme as originally forecast

West Coast Emergency Mangement group controller John Canning says currently all systems are coping well.

Canning says some surface flooding rather than river flooding is anticipated and District Councils are checking stormwater drains.

Emergency services haven't had to deal with any flood-related issues so far.

West Coast Emergency Management is continuing to monitor rainfall from the Hokitika Emergency Operations Centre.

As rain moves north, resources will be transferred to the Greymouth Emergency Operations Centre which will remain activated overnight.
