Police are continuing to scour the scene of Saturday afternoon's fatal fire in Manawatu - in which three children and an adult died

Investigators recovered the bodies of two children and adult from the house on State Highway 1 southwest of Sanson yesterday.

They'll continue to search for the body of the third child today.

Local mayor Michael Ford says it's a heartbreaking situation for the tight-knit community - including emergency services.

He says Police need to be allowed to do their job, and we'll learn more in due course.
