A Southland gang pad which was the scene of a number of prolonged and tortuous beatings could now be confiscated

A Southland gang pad which was the scene of a number of prolonged and tortuous beatings could now be confiscated

Crown lawyers have applied for a forfeiture order covering the Mongrel Mob's headquarters in Mataura and a next door section in Albion Street - with a combined rateable value of 347-thousand dollars.

Open Justice reports several beatings took place there between January and November 2022.

The violence related to an internal gang feud which prompted a spree of violent crimes, and resulted in six gang members being jailed.

One of those was chapter president Turoirangi Harmer-Elers - the properties are registered in the name of his father, past chapter president Bill Elers.
