A fresh warning for boaties about the dangers of bars - after a boat capsized in a large wave at the notorious Tairua bar yesterday morning

Both people on board were wearing life jackets and swim to shore unassisted.

The boat is now submerged at Shoe Bay, awaiting salvage.

Waikato Regional Council says people should know the bar they're crossing, and never cross near low tide.

It says people should always wear a lifejacket, check the weather, and log a bar watch with Coastguard.
