Queenstown's Skippers Bridge will remain closed indefinitely after serious safety issues were discovered

Queenstown's Skippers Bridge will remain closed indefinitely after serious safety issues were discovered

Queenstown Lakes District Council's shut the bridge to vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians after an inspection found failures in the wires used to support the bridge in place and any load on it.

Acting Property and Infrastructure General Manager Roger Davidson says while the closure is disruptive for residents, tour operators and recreational users - public safety is of the utmost importance.

He says the bridge will stay closed while remediation options are assessed.
