Waikato voters may have less to vote for if Bill passes final reading in Parliament today

People in Waikato may have less to vote for in this year's local elections if a Bill passes its final reading in Parliament today

Health minister David Clark has introduced legislation to exempt the Waikato District Health Board being voted on in this year's election.

Clark dismissed the board in May, and brought in Dr Karen Poutasi to be its Commissioner through to the 2022 election.

The legislation needs to pass to keep her there.

Clark says Waikato DHB has had a series of clinical and financial challenges it hasn't been able to get on top of.
