A manhunt is under way - after an 80-year-old woman was assaulted in her West Auckland home late last night

She's in hospital in a serious condition, after police were called to reports of an aggravated robbery on Dellwood Ave in Henderson, just after 2am.

The Herald's Rachel Maher is there.

She says locals are in shock to hear their neighbour was attacked.

She says one describes her as fit-as-a-fiddle, active in her community and beloved by the neighbours.
