An Auckland family are shaken after a brick was allegedly hurled from an overpass, crashing into their windscreen

Wai Murrell was driving with her two young children, aged three and six, and her mother, on the Northern Motorway - the incident happened under the Sunnynook overpass.

The brick didn't break through the glass.

Wai's husband Sam says their son is terrified now.

The family are worried about driving on the motorway while the brick-thrower remains at large.

Police say they're making inquiries into the matter.
