Fifty firefighters are expected at the site of a North Canterbury blaze today - which is now under control

The more than 100 hectare forestry fire in Waipara, which has been burning for almost a week, was contained yesterday.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand Incident Commander Brian Keown says today's crews will be supported by heavy machinery and tankers, as they continue to open up the skid site and extinguish hotspots.

He says Incident Management Team is now planning for demobilisation and recovery.
