A company director's tax fraud has been described as the worst to come before the Christchurch District Court in 20 years

Melanie Jill Tatana has been jailed for three years after failing to pass on more than 1.6 million dollars in tax payments to Inland Revenue.

She took PAYE, or pay as you earn tax, from workers' wages at least 63 times over three years.

The money went on large cash withdrawals, gambling, takeaways, and liquor.
