A 47-year-old man's been charged relating to a fatal Police shooting in Christchurch's Bryndwr last month

Armed officers were called to deal with a man threatening himself and his partner with a hunting knife.

An officer shot and injured the man - then fatally shot the woman, when she used the knife to threaten officers.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill says the man's been charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

He's due appear in the Christchurch District Court in November.

Hill says an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
