There's been a restaurant fire in downtown Wellington

There's been a restaurant fire in downtown Wellington

Fire and Emergency shift manager Karen McDonald says it was reported just before 3am.

She says the first crew found smoke in the restaurant so firefighters from all around the capital were sent to help.

McDonald says there was no one inside at the time, but surrounding apartments were evacuated.

There was also a house fire in Paraparaumu earlier this morning.

Firefighters were called just after 1am , and the blaze was out two hours later.

There are no reports of injury.

Specialist fire investigators will be returning to both the house and the restaurant today to determine the cause of each one.
