Wellington Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay believes the sport of football is on the rise in New Zealand

A raucous 15,245-strong crowd flocked to a rainy Eden Park to cheer on the Kiwi side's 1-nil win over Western Sydney.

The Phoenix sit comfortably in fourth position on the A-League ladder with three round robin games to go.

Talay says with the World Cup later this year, sport's in great shape.
