Teen accused of Brisbane terror plot allegedly tested homemade explosives

The Brisbane Childrens Court heard the teenager allegedly researched bomb making instructions and purchased explosives ingredients.

A teenager accused of planning a terrorist attack in Brisbane last year allegedly bought ingredients to make bombs and tested homemade explosives.

The boy, who cannot be identified under Queensland's youth justice laws, faced the Brisbane Childrens Court on Thursday, where he was committed to stand trial.

He appeared via video link from a detention centre where he is being held on remand.

His lawyer was expected to make an application for bail, but the hearing was abandoned and the matter went ahead as a full hand up committal.

The court heard between May and July of last year, the teenager allegedly researched bomb making instructions and purchased explosives ingredients.

It also heard he allegedly tested both thermal chemical reactions and homemade explosives.

    No plea entered

The Commonwealth prosecution submitted several witness statements to the magistrate, and his lawyer made no submissions.

It was conceded his client had a prima facie case and consented to his charge being committed to the Supreme Court.

He was ordered to stand trial by a magistrate on one count of doing an act in preparation for or planning a terrorist act.

When asked if he would like to say anything in relation to the charge, the boy answered: "No, I do not wish to enter any plea."

He was remanded in custody and his case was adjourned to a later date.
