???1;Proof of how much plastic is in the air

???1;Proof of how much plastic is in the air

Auckland University scientists have tested for microplastics in the air of two chemistry labs to investigate just how much plastic New Zealanders are inhaling.

The study found levels indoors in Auckland are up to 20-times higher than outdoors in rural Southland.

Auckland's levels are equivalent to three million plastic bottles falling from the sky a year.

Senior Lecturer and research lead Joel Rindelaub , says because we spend so much time indoors, we need to know more about the risks of this exposure.

He says the plastic goes in through the lungs, is pumped through the heart which goes to the brain, so all those vital areas could be impacted by air pollution.
