Customs had a huge year in 2025, stopping hundreds of kilograms of drugs at our borders

Customs had a huge year in 2025, stopping hundreds of kilograms of drugs at our borders

Data for the year ending November shows three tonnes of meth and one tonne of cocaine was intercepted.

That includes 287 kilograms of cocaine seized at Port of Tauranga.

Northern Inspections Manager Anthony Davis says smugglers will try putting drugs in everything.

He says that can range from hiding small quantities of drugs each into thousands of chopsticks - all the way up to putting it in large industrial machinery.
