US officials are working to establish how an alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump unfolded

US officials are working to establish how an alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump unfolded

The former president was hit by a bullet in the upper part of his right ear during a rally in Pennsylvania.

The suspected shooter is dead, as is a rally attendee, and two others are in critical condition.

The FBI has identified the suspect as 20 year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.

Pennsylvania State Police's Lieutenant Colonel George Bibbins says they're aware of reports people saw a gunman on the roof of a nearby building and tried to alert authorities.

He says they be looking into the specific response to this, but he confirmed law enforcement were responding to check on several suspicious occurrences.
