A section of the main road through the Coromandel Peninsula remains closed this morning, following a the discovery of a body

Police launched a homicide investigation on State Highway 25A - the Kopu-Hikuai Road - about 7.30 last night.

They say a person has been taken into custody, and officers aren't seeking anyone else.

But police want to hear from anyone who saw vehicles speeding, or following each other, along the road last night, between seven and 7.40.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 105.
