The fire along the Nuhaka-Opoutama Road between Nuhaka and Mahia, south of Gisborne, is now out

The fire along the Nuhaka-Opoutama Road between Nuhaka and Mahia, south of Gisborne, is now out

Fire crews were sent at 10:40 this morning to battle the blaze -- which was caused by falling powerlines in bad weather.

The fire was burning in vegetation along a river before it was extinguished.

Two properties were threatened -- however neither was damaged and there have been no injuries

Police say access in and out of Mahia is limited -- as the Nuhaka-Opoutama Road is blocked.
