A dramatic early morning Police operation in central Auckland

Police have descended to a section of Hobson Street outside Sky City -- a major route out of the CBD.

It's unclear if any arrests have been made.

Newstalk ZB's Kate Hawkesby says the road was completely closed for some time, creating a large build up of traffic.

She say about four police cars were parked horizontally across the road blocking all traffic to the motorway, with officers leaping out with loud hailers.

Hawkesby says there was a lot of yelling, with a lot of yelling back.

The road has since reopened, but Police remain on the scene.
