Aucklanders could be rewarded for their water saving efforts

Aucklanders could be rewarded for their water saving efforts

On Thursday, city councillors will decide whether or not to ease restrictions.

Aucklanders have been banned from washing cars, houses and watering the garden with an outdoor hose since mid-May.

Now, a report going to the council's governing body says there's some risk that if the expected La Nina rainfall doesn't eventuate, and the dams aren't replenished, further restrictions may be necessary.

Auckland's dams are currently 72 percent full, they're usually at 91 percent at this time of year.
