Five people are in custody after a major police pursuit involving firearms that stretched across Auckland, from Papatoetoe in the south to Henderson in the west

It began when police received a report of an firearms incident at a property on Hillside Rd in Papatoetoe around 12.30pm.

    Two cars fled the scene.

One was tracked by the police Eagle helicopter as it travelled on the Southern Motorway and onto the Northwestern motorway.

It was spiked at Lincoln Road , but police say the car continued to be driven recklessly at very high speeds until it was eventually stopped by a police barricade in Henderson.

A second car was stopped in Auckland City.
