Police say everyone needs to play their part, in avoiding further deaths on our roads this summer

Police say everyone needs to play their part, in avoiding further deaths on our roads this summer

At least fourteen people have died on our roads, during the official summer holiday road toll period, between 4pm Christmas Eve and 6am today.

The latest confirmed crashes were both last night -- with a sole occupant being found dead on Auckland's Ihumatao Road, and one person died and two others were seriously injured in a single car crash in Havelock North's Foster Lane.

Director Road Policing Superintendent Steve Greally, says it's positive to see the road toll down from 22 last summer.

But he says any death is one too many, and people need to continue to drive at a safe speed for the conditions, and heed the messages about seat belts, phones, drink-driving, drug-driving and driver fatigue.
