The Prime Minister says agency reviews into claims of data misuse aren't enough -- and a full-scale independent inquiry's needed

The Prime Minister says agency reviews into claims of data misuse aren't enough -- and a full-scale independent inquiry's needed

It's been alleged information collected at Manurewa Marae was used to help Te Pati Maori's election campaign -- which the party denies.

Although Stats NZ and police are investigating -- and other agencies are also gathering information -- Chris Luxon's announced the Public Service Commission will begin its own review, to ensure public confidence in the process.

He says there must be public oversight over the whole picture of Government agency activity -- rather than leaving them to review allegations themselves.
