Labour leader Chris Hipkins says the current government will be remembered in 2040 as 'backwards'

Labour leader Chris Hipkins says the current government will be remembered in 2040 as 'backwards'

He's delivered a speech this morning -- in which he labelled this Government as anti-Maori.

It follows, Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations Minister Paul Goldsmith confirming his plans to raise the bar for Maori to make customary claims over coastal areas.

Hipkins says the speeches at Waitangi day in 2040, will have no praise for this government.

He says they will be remembered as allowing a small minority misrepresent the countriy's founding document.
