An Erebus memorial in Auckland is facing opposition from a prominent Maori leader

An Erebus memorial in Auckland is facing opposition from a prominent Maori leader

Work is expected to begin next week on the 3.5-million-dollar memorial in Dove Myer Robinson Park, in Parnell, which has been staunchly opposed by some groups for years.

Maori Heritage Council member Dame Naida Glavish is putting her hand up against it.

She says communication with local Maori over the project is unclear and she questions the information given for approval.

Construction is due to continue until October.
