The Maori Party says the dawn raid apology is long overdue

The Maori Party says the dawn raid apology is long overdue

The Government will formally apologise for the 1970s dawn raids on Pasifika, Maori, and other people of colour, at an event in Auckland on June 26.

In a post on social media, the Maori Party says the dawn raids were one of the most horrific human rights offences in New Zealand's modern history.

It says there needs to be more education about this dark era.

The Maori Party says it stands in solidarity with the Pacific community and their shared experiences of historic mistreatment, profiling and discrimination by police.
