The Government hasn't made a call whether it will progress Maori customary marine title legislation - after a Supreme Court's ruling

The Government hasn't made a call whether it will progress Maori customary marine title legislation - after a Supreme Court's ruling

Attorney-General Judith Collins has successfully appealed a Court of Appeal decision from October last year.

The top court's clarified applicants must have control and continuity of use in a particular area, for rights to the foreshore and seabed to be continued.

Prime Minister Chris Luxon says the legislation was about bringing the Act back in line with what Parliament intended in 2011.

He says the Government just needs time to digest and go through the details of the Supreme Court decision.
