A landmark breast cancer programme focusing on Maori women is preparing to launch in November

A landmark breast cancer programme focusing on Maori women is preparing to launch in November

Wahine Maori have a 46-percent higher incidence of breast cancer than Pakeha, and a lower survival rate.

The five-year project targets this inequality -- focusing on whanau involvement, providing a single care plan, and prehabilitation.

Auckland University researcher George Laking says this is a new approach.

He says they're confident about the impact of these interventions individually, but no one has ever combined them to see how they might work as a whole.
