Northland's trialing a storm tracking system to help the region prepare for bad weather and climate change

The year long trial will cost 67=thousand dollars, and will use MetService's radar at Kaeo to turn data into rainfall numbers.

Northland Regional Council spokesman, Jason Donaghy, says it means the council will be able to see exactly where storms are, and how much rain's falling.

He says they used it during a storm in July.which picked up heavy rain near Kaikohe, not detected by rain gauges.
