    Taupo has been rattled by a "swarm" of more than 50 earthquakes overnight



    GNS Science duty volcanologist Ery Hughes says the earthquakes weren't continuous, most occurring before 11pm and another burst about 3am.

    She says such swarms are common in geothermal areas.

    GeoNet's website, specifies the earthquakes peaked at 3.4 in magnitude.
