Residents of Northland's Bay of Islands are being urged to check their vaccination status after a confirmed case of measles in the region

Residents of Northland's Bay of Islands are being urged to check their vaccination status after a confirmed case of measles in the region

Health NZ says the person is no longer infectious and was likely linked to overseas travel.

At least six close contacts have been identified so far, and possible exposure locations are still being investigated.

The National Public Health Service's Susan Jack says people who aren't fully vaccinated for measles should do so quickly.

She says those who haven't had two doses of the Measles mumps rubella vaccine after the age of 12 months should visit their GP or pharmacy.
