A Waikato police officer who pepper-sprayed a speeding motorist three times for not handing over his keys, must now pay his victim a thousand dollars

Open Justice reports the officer appeared in Hamilton District Court today.
A judge ruled his actions not only unlawful, but also unwarranted.
It was the officer's first time using pepper spray, and he's been convicted of assault with a weapon.
He lost his application for name suppression - but has 20 working days to consider an appeal.
