Two large youth gatherings in the Coromandel were shut down last night after what Police call "unacceptable behaviour"

Two large youth gatherings in the Coromandel were shut down last night after what Police call "unacceptable behaviour"

Approximately 1000 youth congregated at Whangamata's Williamson Park where bottles were thrown at officers and fireworks were let-off in crowds.

Another 300 youths gathered near Pauanui's Surf Club Resort - where a large number of young people were physically obstructive.

Inspector Mike Henwood says he's disappointed an uneventful New Years Eve was ruined by intoxicated youth in denial about New Year being over.

Seven youth were arrested in Whangamata last night, and one in Pauanui.
