Evacuations and power outages - as strong weather traverses the North Island, with weather watches for most parts

Orange Heavy Rain Warnings cover Coromandel; Bay of Plenty from Opotiki westwards, including Rotorua; and Gisborne.

In Hawke's Bay, a motor camp near Cape Kidnappers is being evacuated because of the risk of slips.

In Northland, a power outage at Kaitaia may be affecting customers north of Pawerenga and Taupo Bay.

Thunderstorm warnings still sit over Kaikohe and Whangarei with risks of downpours.

MetService Meteorologist Hannah Keats says to watch for more.

She says a humid north-east flow will likely help more thunderstorms form into tomorrow.
