    Three people are dead after separate crashes around the country overnight


    A pedestrian's died after being struck by at least one vehicle on State Highway One in Waitako, about 8.30 last night.

    Police say it appears the person had been walking on the highway towards Tirau, before being struck.

    One person's died and two others are seriously hurt, after a vehicle sped off from police in Nelson early this morning.

    It was found a short time later where it had crashed into a tree.

    And another person's lost their life in a single vehicle crash in Tiakitahuna, in Manawatu.
