A house which has gone up in flames in Nelson, had no working smoke alarms

The Konini Street house was well involved in fire when crews arrived just before 10 last night - one person's been seriously injured

At it's peak, there were six fire trucks at the scene.

Fire and Emergency Nelson-Marlborough Assistant Commander Chris Best says it's a timely reminder to ensure there are working smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway and living area as the occupants were fortunate to get out alive.

A fire investigator is there this morning.
