Maitai School was in the final stages of moving to a new purpose-built facility, after five-years of planning.
But it's been told by the Education Ministry the new campus -- and a proposed satellite -- is in doubt amid a new review.
Deputy Principal, Janet Watt says the entire community is gutted.
She says they support the community's most vulnerable kids -- who have a huge range of disabilities -- and parents come to them, with nowhere else to go.
The ministry says it's committed to the school's redevelopment, with the review intended to find ways to achieve better value for money.
