A volunteer group's helping grow the Great Spotted Kiwi population in Nelson Lakes National Park

A volunteer group's helping grow the Great Spotted Kiwi population in Nelson Lakes National Park

The Friends of Rotoiti have supported DOC's work, helping with trapping efforts and driving kiwi restoration work.

There are now 29 kiwi in the park - 20 years ago, there were none.

DOC biodiversity supervisor Ricki Mitchell says the future is bright, thanks to the group's work.

Friends of Rotoiti plan to add 11 more kiwi next year.
