A 32-year-old man has been arrested after fleeing police and being found with weapons in North Otago

He was driving a stolen vehicle on Wednesday, when Police signalled him to pull over south of Oamaru.

After the car was spiked near Kakanui township, he fled on foot and was arrested shortly after.

Police found an imitation firearm, sawn off shotgun, ammunition, drugs and knives in the stolen vehicle.

He's also believed to be responsible for another vehicle theft on May 19, and police had two outstanding arrest warrants.

He will appear in Timaru District Court next week, on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, failing to stop and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
