A man is in a serious condition in Southland Hospital after being shot in Invercargill

Police are appealing for information following the firearms incident last night, at an address on Brown Street.

Southland Area Commander Inspector Mike Bowman says the man who was shot was seriously injured, but is stable.

He says a scene examination is underway and residents should expect a continued Police presence in the area.

He's reassuring the community this was an isolated incident.

Police urge anyone who may have noticed any suspicious behaviour or vehicles in the area around 8pm yesterday to call 10-5
