The Otago Regional Council is keeping a close eye on the area's rainfall

The Otago Regional Council is keeping a close eye on the area's rainfall

Heavy downpours were forecast over the Otago headwaters this past weekend.

But it's not expected to raise levels of Lake Wanaka and Lake Wakatipu as high as last week's deluge.

The Otago Regional Council says the lakes are expected to be between 50 and 400 millimetres deeper than usual, by the end of today.

It says it's closely monitoring the rainfall until river flows decrease.
