Otago University students are facing back to back increases to their tuition fees

Otago University students are facing back to back increases to their tuition fees

The university's council has approved a six percent rise for the second consecutive year.

Vice-Chancellor Grant Robertson says the decision hasn't been made lightly, but is necessary given government assistance isn't keeping pace with the university's costs.

He says to help mitigate the impact, there's been a lift in support for student hardship relief and the Residential College Relief Fund.
