A rollicking response from New Zealand at the softball World Cup in Auckland

A rollicking response from New Zealand at the softball World Cup in Auckland

The Black Sox bounced back from losses to Argentina and the United States, to beat the Philippines 8-1.

Reilly Makea, who hit his first home run of the tournament, says they showed some pep.

The Black Sox chances of qualifying for the super round remain alive if they beat Cuba in a winner-take-all game for the final place in the medal round.

The Argentines and Americans have already secured spots in group A for the next stage.

Canada - who have won all four matches this week - and Australia qualified in group B with Venezuela and Japan to contest the remaining spot.
