A New Zealand runner believes Athletics New Zealand's Commonwealth Games qualifying standards are unrealistic

A New Zealand runner believes Athletics New Zealand's Commonwealth Games qualifying standards are unrealistic

Brad Mathas won the 800 metres at a Japanese meet at the weekend in one minute 46.1 seconds, 1.1 seconds off the Games A standard and 0.3 of a second off the B benchmark.

The New Zealand qualifying period closed on May 1 ahead of the August 3 first round of the event, but strangely he can still work towards qualifying for the world championships in July.

Mathas, who placed fifth at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is frustrated.
